Going Green with Paperless Banking | The First National Bank Blog

Make a Statement!

There are a lot of ways to celebrate Earth Day, but paperless banking may not be the first thing that springs to mind. Going paperless by banking online can make a difference, not just by saving paper, but by saving the energy required to process paper statements and deliver them to your home.

If you’re not already banking online, now is a great time to familiarize yourself with its many benefits. You can bank 24 hours a day / seven days a week, and the service is free at most financial institutions. Online banking allows you to do things like check balances, initiate stop payments, view checks and direct deposits, and make transfers from just about anywhere.

Online Bill Paying

While Americans now pay most of their bills online, many consumers are uncomfortable with paying bills directly through retailers because of difficulty canceling recurring payments, potential billing disputes, and other issues. Many financial institutions offer online bill paying services to help their customers avoid these hassles. Paying bills online helps save money, time and the environment.

What if Every Household in America Switched to Paying Bills Online?

  • Solid waste in U.S. landfills would be reduced by more than 800,000 tons.
  • Greenhouse gases would be reduced by 2.1 million tons.
  • Approximately 18.5 million trees would be saved.
